I love to get my training out of the way early in the day. That way I can shower, put on make-up and dress in normal clothes for the rest of the day. :)
Last night we went to a "Christmas event" (that's what it was called!) at a church down the road. There were carolers, live nativity, FREE COOKIES! A good time was had by all, but the boys especially liked the hayride and train ride around the parking lot. The extra bonus was going to bed early!
I woke up with Xavier about 6:30. Jon woke up a little later, and I took the opportunity to get in my long run. I ran to the park and did some of the trail, caught a loop and made it back home. I did some walk breaks when I had to, but I'm thinking it's about 6 miles in 73:00. I can't wait for the Garmin, no more estimating! I haven't run that long in forever. I've totalled that much, but not all at once!
As I was running I had to tell myself "It's ok- there are no rules and no pressure. Just enjoy the fact you're running".
It's hard to deprogram from the figure competition way of training. Separating my body into "good parts" or "needs work" parts. Starving myself. Wringing every drop out of each workout while restricting calories...not fun.
I'm running because I LOVE it and there are no limits.
I was watching the sunrise while on the trails and it was so quiet all I heard was my breath and my feet crunching on the ground. I'm really lucky that I can run, or walk, or do anything that I put my mind to. I'm so glad to have the ability, the drive, the passion. I know that I'll be able to complete the 1/2 marathon and then the full marathon in April. If I walk some, so what. It's all about finishing.
"The race is not given to the swift nor to the strong but unto those who shall endure until the end."
The rest of the day has been a blurr of homemade waffles, eggs, gravy and biscuits for the boys.
Later today we're going to volunteer at Good Mews and help clean/feed. Then it's a big Sunday dinner, more crocheting, laundry and cupcakes. My kind of day!
