He's a damned pig.
When it comes to Lofthouse Sugar Cookies he's powerless. It's his kryptonite. I bought a package the other day and he's allowed one cookie as a snack after school. ONE. 190 calories. He ate it, drank his milk and hovered around the lone cookie in the package.
ME: "You know you can only have one cookie. That's Daddy's cookie"
Xan "Oh I know, I'm just looking at it" And he swoops out of the kitchen. I'm filling the dishwasher and he comes back in.
XAN "I love you Mom" and throws his arms around me in a huge hug.
The whole time he's staring at that cookie. I remind him, ever so gently that I would beat his ass (of course this is NOT verbatum!) if he touches that cookie. He goes upstairs to play.
My husband comes home. After getting ready for my afternoon clients I come downstairs and hang out with him in the kitchen.
I notice the cookie. It's gone.
ME "Did you eat your cookie"
Jon "No I bet Xan took it I told him he couldn't have it"
Jon races upstairs.
There is our 87 pound 7 year old with half his body under the bed. Eating the cookie.
We explain how he's hurting everyone with this behavior. How he's made us distrust him, how he made us angry, and how he's harming his body by putting all that junk in it. He started to cry.
ME: "Suck it up, you made the choice to deceive us and you made the choice to be a pig."
I fear for this child. I don't want his hero to be Homer Simpson!

Hey Janis, it's Heidi from punky moms! I've been reading your blog since its inception but didn't have an ID so I have never commented before but this one broke my heart so I got an ID so I could tell you so. I was very much like your Xan when I was his age except I had wonderful metabolism. I can't tell you the number of empty ice cream containers and empty orea cookie wrappers my mom found under my bed. As you know I still struggle. I wish your little man all the best in working through this.
My Heidi! I know he can't help it- and to be honest today it's kinda funny. I hope his little belly is stretched out during his next growth spurt!
