I must agree with a local talk show host, this country is becoming wussified- it's called "The wussification of America".
Example: Holiday Trees. No. It's a fucking Christmas Tree. ("But we don't want to OFFEND anyone")
Wussification: Taking something "everything"and making it so soft, pointless, and meaningless that no one gets hurt, everybody is equal, no one feels better, no one feels worse, no one is smarter, stronger. Oh hell, it's indefinable. Just make a liberal cry; they'll consider it a release, and thus a favor. Basically "Your good enough, your smart enough, and gosh darnit, people like you..." but we don't and your not...
Why am I on this topic?
Somebody reemed me out on myspace. I posted the blog "What about the children" on there. She was pissed. Her daughter has life threatening allergies, etc etc. She didn't want her child to have to sit out and not participate.
Wussification.
The girl who reemed me is not a wuss. She's actually quite kick ass. However she's a Mom and the Mama Bear comes out. Fair enough.
But...she is different. She has problems she must deal with her whole life, much like my child's learning disabilities.
Do I expect the entire class to slow down and learn at his pace?
No.
He understands he's different. He just learns at a different pace. He knows that he'll always have to work harder. He misses out on lots of stuff because he's....different. He cries, he can't do certain things at school functions, birthday parties, play sports, etc because of his issues. It's just the way it is. I don't expect the world to revolve around him because he's got issues and why should it?
I'm just a little surprised she took it as a personal attack against all children with allergies and views it as a flaw in my character.
I can look at the situation and say "I wouldn't want everyone else's child to miss out."
I can't imagine asking everyone to change the way they have ALWAYS done things to accomidate a few kids. I would never, ever do that nor have I done that. Never in a million years. It goes back to the school asking me to bring in fruit salad instead of cookies for his birthday. Ya know what, the one lady who's child is on a special diet offers to make a cupcake for her son. That way he can eat along with everyone else and feel normal.
Instead of making everyone feel different while they eat fruit salad to celebrate a birthday.
But that's just me, and I don't have the same issues as she does.

First off - I'm totally with you on the not a Republican, not yet a Democrat statement.
As I just told my hubs on the way to work this morning, our country is run by douchebags.
And I agree with you on the wussification. It sucks.
And I was with you on the classroom snacks as well.
I guess what I'm saying: Is Right ON Sister, and Eff that chick.
