After checking the radar it was decided that the storm would over by the time the race began.
At the check-in tent, big Peach running co didn't have my name down. Dang! So over to another tent. I feel bad about giving that girl attitude. Anyway- I ran into a bunch of old clients/fellow personal trainers and grabbed my place in line. Way too crowded, and I was too far back. The gun went off and we stood in place and crawled to the starting line where I started my watch.
The first mile resembled a cross country race, I was hurdling puddles, children, walkers, dogs, etc. I saw a great shirt "Pass the weak- Hurdle the Dead". Mile #1- 8:58 by my watch, but it took 40 freaking seconds to get to the starting line. Pretty good considering the jumble of people.
Mile #2 wasn't very pleasant. There was a huge, steep hill that I charged up. "Like taking off a band-aid" one of my clients always says. Once on top I kept up running but slowed considerably. Mile #2 was 9 something too. This is where the beauty of 5k's shines through. Only one more mile! Hell no I'm not stopping. There was another incline, some guy playing charge on a tuba, another hitting a cowbell, and lots of spectators. At mile 3 I think the time was 26 something, so I just threw down and sprinted in. 26:38 by my watch, 27:20 by the 'real' clock. It really hurt at the end, but hot damn I was happy!
I'm really hopefull about racing season next year. I'm going to start my long runs this weekend and continue to build up with my ultimate goal being the ING Georgia Half-Marathon.
But today- we eat tofurkey and pie!! Happy Thanksgiving!!
