I'd post pictures, but there aren't any. My husband was busy entertaining 2 very unhappy little boys and didn't see me finish.
There was a company taking pictures, I hope there's one of me.
It was very cold and very windy this morning. There was a HUGE crowd, at least 4,000 runners which meant traffic stunk! Luckily we had a parking pass :)
I didn't really warm up, I barely made it in line for the start. Very chaotic and disorganized. It was another 45+ second wait before crossing the starting line. I've got to get my butt up there!
First mile consisted of me hurdling little dogs, people dressed like Santa (and dogs dressed like Santa) weaving in and out and jockeying for a decent space. It reminded me of cross country! Mile one- my time 8:20- official 9:06.
Then you have a big, nasty hill. People were dropping like flies. I made it up, no problem. Turn the corner, and there's another hill, the baby brother of the other hill. I made it up that. My time @ mile 2 18:30, offical 19:08
I passed spiderman. superman and several of Santa's elves.
A little walk break (30 seconds) because of a nasty cramp in my side. Sweaty and I had to pee. I wore a fleece, an underarmour long sleeve t-shirt (which honestly should have been my top layer) and another underarmour short sleeve t on the bottom.
Nobody was giving the 3 mile split- you start running down a hill and here the announcer guy saying "Ladies on the right, men on the left" I didn't want to start going all out and bonk. I see the finish and haul ass, passing at least 8 people.
My time- 27:01. Official time unknown. Most races have somebody calling out the times as you come in, here it was "Ladies right, men left". You have to fill out your card with your time even if you don't know it. Ugh what a nightmare.
I felt really good about my performance. Next year I'll do the race with my friends as a walker and leave the boys at home ;)
