Granny squares have such a bad rep. Most people avoid them like the plague- thinking they're too kitch or cheesey or 70's. I'm not afraid to say that I LOVE granny squares! They're very rewarding, you can whip one up in less than 30 minutes. There are so many varities: square, octagon, rectangle, giant, small, flowers, colors etc etc. I found a great motif in the book: 
Because I've had the funk of fourty thousand years crocheting has been on the back burner, however I'm going to make the flower the center and add plain squares around it for a pillow. It'll be just like Grandma's house!
